Chanteuses - an upper voices vocal ensemble

Chanteuses brings together talented singers from across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Hertfordshire. Meeting in Leighton Buzzard, the group specialises in performing works by contemporary composers, with a particular focus on music by women. Their repertoire includes pieces by acclaimed composers such as Sarah Quartel, Elaine Hagenberg, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, and Fiona Lander.

Chanteuses have appeared in concerts with Heath Band, Leighton Linslade Concert Band, and the Bedfordshire Band of the Royal British Legion. Their concerts have raised valuable funds for both local churches and charitable causes.

Highlights for 2025 include performances at the St David’s Day Concert in Leighton Buzzard last March, our May Spring Concert in Stewkley Church and a prestigious appearance in July at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, under the baton of Professor Paul Mealor. The year concludes with performances at the Leighton Buzzard Royal British Legion Poppy Prom Concert in October and the London Choirs@TheTower25 Festival in December.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.00pm at Southcott Lower School.  The ensemble meets for a minimum of 30 rehearsals each year with performance dates added to the calendar as they occur.

Singers need some ability to read music or a willingness to learn parts at home between rehearsals using support tracks.  Singers who are interested in joining the ensemble are asked to undergo a short voice test prior to coming to a rehearsal to determine their vocal range and tone.

Upon joining the ensemble, members pay a monthly fee.

The group has a small number of openings for new members and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in joining this exciting upper voices ensemble.
